AirportWorkers

The terrible death of an American Airlines worker in Georgia’s neighbor state North Carolina alerts Decatur workers to the dangers that airline workers face, and raises questions among workers in Decatur about what they can do if they are seriously injured at work. According to local news reports, on the morning of Monday, January 27, a worker who has still yet to be identified to the public was killed on the tarmac of the Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Authorities believe that the tragic and unfortunate workplace accident occurred at around 9:30 a.m. in the morning. Though details about the fatal workplace accident are sparse, reports indicate that the accident involved a single airline ramp vehicle that was on the airport’s tarmac. Emergency crews and first responder medical crews attended to the injured employee, but he succumbed to his injuries and, sadly, died. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department told news reporters that local police officers responded to the airport for “an employee reportedly struck by a vehicle on the tarmac.” American Airlines also released a statement about the tragic and untimely death of one of their own, stating, “We are devastated by the accident involving a team member at Charlotte Douglas International Airport…Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and our local team members. We are focused on ensuring that all involved have the support they need during this difficult time.”

The Charlotte Douglas International Airport also had some words about the tragic death of the airport worker, stating, “Our deepest condolences go out to the employee’s family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time…The airport is working closely with airline and first responder partners in the ongoing investigation and is providing support as needed.”
