Recent Hammer-Beating Death of Gas Station Employee in Dekalb County, Georgia brings back Haunting Memories of other Recent Georgia Gas Station Employee Killing
News of the horrific killing of a bright and young gas station clerk in Dekalb County, Georgia earlier this year in January brings back haunting memories of another recent gas station attack in Dekalb County that left another gas station employee dead at the hands of violent individuals. According to local news reports, WSB-TV Atlanta, the January, 2024, killing of Vivek Saini, who worked at the Chevron Food Mart on Snapfinger and Cleveland Road in Lithonia, Georgia, involved a severe and brutal beating by a homeless man who Saini had tried to help. That man, 53-year-old Julian Faulkner, had been visiting the store asking for food, water, and supplies. Saini and other employees at the Chevron helped Faulkner, but he later turned on 25-year-old Saini and killed him by beating him with a hammer to death.
The terrible and senseless killing of bright and young Vivek Saini harkens back horrific memories of another life lost to a violent criminal act. ANF Atlanta News First reported in July, 2023, that 24-year-old Rahil Surani, a budding business owner, was gunned down by armed robbers at his BP Gas Station located at 2155 Flat Shoals Road in Dekalb County. Local law enforcement authorities reported that Surani, of Alpharetta, was killed inside of the store by being gunned down during an armed robbery, as Surani was arranging merchandise in the store. The terrible attack occurred at around 3:00 a.m. Witnesses indicated that after the armed robbers killed Surani, they stole money from the cash register and left the BP Gas Station.
The two horrific killings of young, bright, and motivated young men raise the question of what recourse, outside of Georgia criminal laws, do the surviving members of these two young men have?
